MMedSc (Radiology)

Aim and Objectives:

Aim: To provide a comprehensive training  in diagnostic radiology so as to prepare the trainees to have sound knowledge, adequate skill and reasonable attitude, to be able to work as competent radiologists or teachers in radiology.

Objectives: At the end the course the trainees should be able to

  1. strengthen the knowledge of Basic Medical Science relevant to the radiology
  2. describe the principles of diagnostic radiology and imaging. ( Knowledge )
  3. demonstrate a sound knowledge of the common aspect of clinical radiology that comprises of  the routine general work in clinical practice .( Knowledge )
  4. demonstrate competent skill in radiological diagnosis of common clinical problems. (Skill)
  5. exhibit an appreciation of the role and scope of to apply all available radiological techniques in relation to the management of clinical problems. (Skill)
  6. emphasize the importance of clinical orientation and multidisciplinary approach to solve complex diagnostic problems.
  7. develop knowledge and skill in basic research methodology in radiology.

Duration of the Course

Full ‐ time residency training course of 2 years duration.

Training Programme

2 years course

Part I – 6 months

Including:

Physics of diagnostic imaging

Radiographic anatomy, radiography and radiographic procedures

In consultation with the supervisor the residents are required to select the topics for dissertation and prepare the protocol within 3 months of the commencement of the course. The completed protocol must be submitted to Board of Studies of Radiology. 

Part II– 18 months

Systemic modules are programmed throughout the 2nd year including Neurology, musculoskeletal, respitatory and cardiovascular systems, gastrointestinal and hepatohiliary, genitourinary and women imaging. 

Assessment: 

Part I assessment: summative assessment after 6 months including paper I, Paper II and vica voce

Assessments contents:

Physics of diagnostic imaging. 

Radiographic Anatomy of all systems

Radiography, photography, positioning.

Radiological procedures, conventional and interventional

Part II assessment: summative assessment at the end of 2 year including Paper I (MSQ), Paper 2 (MCQ), practical tests and viva voce

Both tests are compartment system and pass mark is 60%

The degree (MMedSc) will be conferred to the candidates only after successful completion of modular assessment and defending the thesis.

DrMedSc (Radiology)

Aim and Objective:

  1. To provide high level post graduate training
  2. To upgrade he level of clinical competency to keep abreast with international level
  3. To develop highly qualified leadership and administration with broad attitude Duration of the course: 3 years

Contents of teaching programme: Teaching assignment

Assessments: 

Formative assessments will done at the end of 1st and 2nd year in the form of MSQ & grand viva consisting of theoretical aspects, clinical skills, communicating skills and technical skills Summative assessment will be done at the end of 3rd year with the same contents 

Thesis: protocol of the thesis must be submitted in the 1st year, the final thesis defend will be done in the last 2 weeks of last month of the course.
