History of Department The Department of Nephrology was first founded in 1997 by AP Dr Khin Maung Htay in Mandalay General Hospital. At that time, acute renal failure patients were treated with intermittent peritoneal dialysis which was the only treatment option available. On 4th June 2006, Hemodialysis has been started at the Department of Nephrology. Current new Nephrology Department (Man Taung Yike Building) has been relocated at June (2015).We provide more renal care to patient not only peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis, but also renal biopsy service on patients with glomerulonephritis and renal transplant for ESRD patient At new building CKD patients were treated with renal total 20 HD machines. Total 7 pairs of renal transplantation were done during 2002 - 2004. Then the process was restarted again in 2015 September and now total 85 pairs of transplantation patients have been done. The transplantation program has successfully become ongoing process and up to July 2020, 85 pairs of renal transplant been done. Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis for ESRD patient also started in 2018 and total 21 patients has been provided. In January 2017, Diploma in Nephrology Nursing was started and altogether 34 candidates obtained the diploma in 2020. In 2018, Dr Med Sc (Nephrology) course was opened. In 2019, ODISSeA (Organ Donation Innovative Strategies in Southeast Asia) Project was started together with the Department of Surgery, Department of Neurology, Department of Emergency, Department of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care Unit. In 2020, Post-Graduate Certificate Course in Organ Donation was opened.
